I am so thankful for all of you who have continually asked me about the progress I've made on my 5K training. I apologize for promising updates and not following through. Unfortunately, I was not able to run very long. Before I started running I tried to walk, for several weeks, to get my body ready for any physical activity. I think I had already mentioned this in an earlier post. I was having a lot of discomfort in my knees, but figured it would go away. Well, the very first day I started running my knees felt as if they were going to break every time I planted either foot. It was very painful, but I didn't want to give up. My goal was to work through the pain. The second week of the program required longer running intervals. I remember hearing the ladies voice telling me to begin running and gritting my teeth as I started. After speaking with Keith, I decided it was not the best idea to continue. At first, I thought I would go see a specialist, but decided to try muscle strengthening first. Right after I made the decision to stop, I saw an episode of the Doctors that was talking about running injuries due to weak muscles. Soooo, I am in the process of doing some muscle training combined with cardio. I am just starting the cardio, so I have high hopes to start some more weight lose.
My sister told me about choosemyplate.gov over Easter. I went on the website, entered my info, and it gave me my calorie intake for each day. It asked very specific questions...like, are you breastfeeding? I feel as if it is the best option for me at this time. I really like the website. You can chart your weight lose, exercise hours, calories, foods you eat, etc. Just over the past few weeks I have lost 5 pounds. My hope is to start running in another month. I will see what happens before making any decisions on another specific 5K. Thanks again for your encouragement! I cherish all of your friendships!
